About Comment Cruncher, Version 1.00 Comment Cruncher is a Page-Encapsulated-Application (PEA) written by Russ Tanner. Comment Cruncher is a lightweight comment management system for the popular photo gallery system "Gallery". In the present version, it is primarily used for deleting comments, but it may be expanded in the future to help with other related tasks (if enough interest is generated). Let me know. Thank you very much for your consideration and support. All About PEAs A Page-Encapsulated-Application (PEA) is a new web concept that enables the simple distribution and installation of web applications. A PEA is a single file that contains an entire web application. All necessary resources to run the application are contained in a single file. Just copy a file into your web space and it works. A PEA can be written in any language and has no inherent limitations except those imposed by file systems, web servers, and HTML standards. I am attempting to coin (popularize) the acronym PEA (with no profit intended) in order promote the idea of distributing software in a way that makes life easy for everyone who uses software. What About DEAs? In order to accommodate applications that cannot be contained within a single file, enter the concept of a DEA (pronounced "dee`"): A Directory-Encapsulated Application . A DEA is a complete application that consists of any number of files that are copied into a single directory (folder). They have no other dependencies, so when the copy is complete, just call index.php (or whatever the "home" file name is) and the application works. |
